The History of Charleston walking tour lasts for 2 hours.  The tour will take you around the infamous historic district and end in a the Middleton Family's private garden with refreshments.

Walk with a 13th generation local, Anne Middleton Herron.  She will give you a real sense of Charleston's present and past from a personal perspective.   Having lived in historic Charleston her whole life, Anne will describe the city and its characters and invite you for a lemonade in the garden where she grew up.  Join Anne for the best way to spend your morning in the picturesque city of Charleston.

The streets of downtown Charleston give you a chance to discover Colonial, Revolutionary and Civil War history through
the buildings and relics that have been preserved throughout the centuries.  A city that has suffered peril from disease, wars, enemy occupation, and over 300 days of bombardment, has not only survived, but has more historic landmarks than any other city in the United States.

Settled in 1670 by the English,  Charleston was the first colony to allow complete religious freedom and the chance for all settlers to own land upon arrival.  By the late 1700s, Charleston was the 5th largest city in America, and its thriving port bustled with activity and diversity.  Four delegates from Charleston signed the Declaration of Independance, and four others signed the Constitution.  British occupation during the Revolutionary War only strengthened the resolve of the citizens and
bore famous revolutionary heros like the "Swamp Fox" and the "Gamecock."  Influential and spirited men and women have walked the streets of Charleston from the early Colonial period through the Civil War.  These men have recorded their character in the structures left behind.  Experience history through the buildings and the cobblestone streets of Charleston, which were paved and built from influences all over Western Europe.
